HikeBeyond is free to read. Part of what pays for the research behind the guides comes from affiliate links. This page explains exactly how that works, and why it never changes what we recommend.

Disclosure

HikeBeyond is reader supported. Some of the links in our guides are affiliate links. If you buy through one, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Does HikeBeyond use affiliate links?

Yes. Some links in our guides and gear pages are affiliate links. If you follow one and buy something, the retailer pays us a small share of the sale. You pay exactly the same price you would have paid anyway.

Which affiliate programmes do you take part in?

HikeBeyond takes part in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Programme, an affiliate advertising programme designed to provide a way for sites to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. We may also join other gear and outdoor retailer programmes, and everything on this page applies to all of them equally.

Do affiliate links change your recommendations?

No. Affiliate relationships never determine our recommendations, ratings or editorial conclusions. A product does not appear in a guide because it pays more, and a better product is not left out because it pays nothing. Where the right answer is to buy nothing at all, we say so.

How do you evaluate recommended gear?

We research products using published specifications, safety information, veterinary guidance and practical trail needs. Where we have not tested something ourselves, we say so rather than implying otherwise.

Will you identify affiliate links?

Yes. We identify affiliate links clearly wherever they appear, in guides, gear resources and tools, so you always know before you click.

What does this cost you?

Nothing. The commission comes out of the retailer’s margin, not your pocket. The price is identical whether you use our link or go to the shop directly.

How does affiliate support help?

Your support pays for the research behind the guides, keeps the site running, and funds the free planning tools. It is what lets the guides stay free and stay honest at the same time.
